Being a nerd...

Wed May 2, 2007, 9:13 AM
Last night I finally got the New York based magazine, "Theme". It features a special issue this month about nerds. Why do I care about it? Well, they did a profile for me. -_- Am I a nerd?

Nerd has been a relatively negative vocabulary in my memory. But I have never thought too much about the meaning of this word. Now looking at the definition on the web:

Nerd, as a stereotypical or archetypal designation, refers to somebody who passionately pursues intellectual or esoteric knowledge or pastimes rather than engaging in a social life, participating in organized sports, or other mainstream activities.

I feel both proud and also a bit shame that I am a 100% nerd. The article on the magazine is a really good summary of my game design philosophy, too bad it's only available on paper. And here's the table of content.

Hi Jenova, I just noticed you made a blog post on The Hero's Journey earlier this year. I have a book to recommend to you if you are interested in learning about myth. It is called A Story as Sharp as a Knife, by Robert Bringhurst. I wrote a review of it on my blog: [link] :)

This book has convinced me that myth is an artform with the most direct relevance to games, out of all linear media. I'd be very interested in hearing what you think of it.

Hey, I saw your interview on Tale of Tales! Thanks for participating in that; I find it very interesting to read about the thinking behind what you do.

Were you really thinking of all that when you made Cloud and flOw? :)
:iconsbug51:

I have been always interested in evolution, and your game, felt so peaceful at it!

thanks again :)

I see your flower concepts are going somewhere now. Congratulations. :)

It will be interesting for me to see how my early interpretations of the pictures compare with your elaboration of your vision in the game.

Hehe, it has been through a long way. Some of the natrual beauty in the painting are missing after we turned it into a game though.
